Every Pool Ball Cats illustration starts with a spark of chaos and a lot of playful experimentation. As artists, we love exploring ideas loosely before things start to click — letting personality, motion, and attitude lead the way. This piece was all about celebrating the interchangeable faces and bold expressions that make our cats feel alive, while building a composition that feels fast, fun, and full of energy. With each pass, we tightened the structure, pushed the action, and leaned into visual cues that amplify movement and excitement. By the final stage, everything comes together — clean lines, vibrant color, and a confident finish — turning a rough idea into a fully charged illustration ready to jump off the page.
Here, we have our initial sketch of Faces. We wanted to showcase the interchangeable faces on Pool Ball Cat figures, while encapsulating the vibrant personalities that define our cats.
Continuing our creative process, we refined the rough sketch by adding intricate details and emphasizing the circular composition to accentuate the unique shapes of the faces. The addition of dynamic action lines and explosive burst shapes, drawn from the captivating world of manga illustrations, elevates the energy and vibrancy of the entire composition.
Lastly, we cleaned up the illustration by outlining every detail with bold, confident lines, and infusing it with a vivid spectrum of colors that breathe life into the illustration.
